On June 8, after a year of campaigning and outreach to the community, Ramin Fatehi won over 60% of the vote in the June 8, 2021, Democratic Primary, earning his party’s nomination for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney. No other candidates filed for the November 2, 2021, general election, and barring a successful write-in campaign Ramin will be sworn in as Norfolk’s Commonwealth’s Attorney on January 1, 2022.
Ramin won 47 of 49 voting precincts in Norfolk with 60.78% of the vote. The total vote for candidates supporting criminal justice reform was over 78%. “I am humbled and grateful that my friends and neighbors have so strongly supported our message of justice, equity, and accountability through criminal justice reform,” said Ramin. “I am thankful to the people and organizations who endorsed our message, including Congressman Bobby Scott, Senators Lionell Spruill and Lynwood Lewis, Delegate Steve Heretick, Councilman Paul Riddick, former Councilman Andy Protogyrou, School Board Members Rodney Jordan and Carlos Clanton, New Virginia Majority, Real Justice, and a host of my fellow progressive Commonwealth’s Attorneys. I look forward to assisting my fellow Democrats in contested races in November, to working on a smooth transition from the administration of my friend and mentor Greg Underwood to mine, and to continuing our work for a fairer and safer Norfolk.”
Ramin Fatehi is a progressive prosecutor and the presumptive Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Norfolk in 2022.
