Norfolk, Va.—After six months of hard campaigning, Ramin Fatehi won a majority of the vote in the June 17, 2025, Democratic Primary, once again earning his party’s nomination for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney. No other candidates filed for the November 4, 2025, general election, and barring a successful write-in campaign Fatehi will continue his work in a second term beginning January 1, 2026.

Ramin Fatehi won 30 of 48 voting precincts in Norfolk with 52.21% of the vote. (Provisional ballots remain to be counted.) [Official results reported July 1, 2025 reflect that Fatehi won 29 of 48 voting precincts with 52.29% of the vote. He also won a large majority of Norfolk’s validated provisional ballots.—Ed.] “Over the course of the last year and especially the last six months we have had an important conversation about public safety and civil rights in Norfolk. That conversation took place in the context of what has turned out to be the most expensive prosecutor’s race in the history of the Commonwealth,” said Fatehi. “Thanks to the work of countless people, Norfolk chose criminal justice reform over retrenchment, a view forward rather than a view backward, hope over fear. A win for working people, Black people, and Brown people. Thank you to everyone who made our victory on Tuesday possible, including Bobby Scott, Mark Herring, Don Scott, Algie Howell, Paul Riddick, Andy Protogyrou, Rodney Jordan, and Yvonne Wagner, who stood with me. Thanks also to New Virginia Majority and my in-house field team for taking our message to the people and meeting them where they are.”

“I recognize that 52% of people voted for me and 48% voted for my opponent. He was gracious in calling to concede on Tuesday night, and I expressed my appreciation for his calling. While I will not compromise my principles or my promises, I will redouble my efforts to reach out to the people who wanted change and to work with my detractors. I did so during my first term, and I will continue to do so, because that is what voters expect of their elected officials. And no matter a person’s political beliefs, how much someone loves or hates me, how much someone believes in my work or despises it, I will offer the same compassion, evenhandedness, and consideration to everyone. I am the Commonwealth’s Attorney for all of Norfolk.”
