Fatehi Announces 2025 Reelection Campaign

January 16, 20250

Norfolk, Va. — Ramin Fatehi, the Commonwealth’s Attorney for the City of Norfolk, today announced that he will seek reelection as Commonwealth’s Attorney in 2025.

Fatehi, a proud Democrat and progressive prosecutor, has served as Commonwealth’s Attorney since January 1, 2022, having won the Democratic Primary in 2021 with nearly 61% of the popular vote.  Fatehi oversees one of the largest and busiest Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Offices in Virginia, with 40 lawyers and 45 staff dedicated to justice and public safety.

“It has been the privilege of my life to serve as Commonwealth’s Attorney in Norfolk, the city that I love and that my family and I call home,” said Fatehi, “I am proud of the progress we have made to pursue fairness, accountability, and criminal-justice reform in Norfolk, all while we have seen historic declines in homicides and violent crimes.  I am grateful to our fellow citizens for their trust and will be asking for their support to continue this important work.”

Since Fatehi took office in 2022:

  • Homicides in Norfolk have fallen by over 42% and violent crimes overall by 40%.
  • The office is at full staff with the most diverse team in Hampton Roads.
  • Fatehi has spearheaded the funding of the first-ever Virginia Witness Protection Program.
  • Fatehi has pledged to protect the reproductive rights of all our citizens.

“The work we do as prosecutors has real consequences for real people: victims, the accused, and the community.  I have kept my promises to our citizens, and we have done many things to make Norfolk more safe while making Norfolk more fair.  But we still have work to do,” said Fatehi, “In my second term I will continue to be smart on crime.  I will continue to put in place policies and advocate for laws that will reduce the criminalization of poverty, mental illness, homelessness, and youth.  I will continue to support community violence intervention and to call for solutions to the root causes of crime.  I will continue to make sure that the brand of justice we pursue in Norfolk depends on the facts of the case and not on wealth, status, or connections.  We cannot afford to go backward.”

Fatehi lives in Colonial Place with his wife and sons.  The Democratic Party primary will be on June 17, 2025.
