This afternoon, national grassroots organization Moms Demand Action designated Ramin Fatehi a 2025 Gun Sense Candidate. This distinction is nonpartisan—like common-sense gun safety—and available to any and every candidate who “demonstrate[s] that they will support stronger gun laws and advocate for safer communities.”

Fatehi was one of the lead advocates in Richmond for SB 363, a bill that criminalized owning or selling a firearm with an obliterated serial number (WTKR). SB 363 passed both the Senate and the House of Delegates and was signed into law by Governor Glenn Youngkin last May. The bill, now enshrined as Va. Code § 18.2-311.1, took effect on 1 July 2024.

As of today, Fatehi is the only candidate for Norfolk Commonwealth’s Attorney to have been awarded this distinction. This coming Friday, June 6 is National Gun Violence Awareness Day, and the first day of Wear Orange Weekend, which honors the lives of Americans affected by gun violence.

Early voting in the Norfolk primary began May 2 and will continue through Saturday, June 14. Election Day is June 17.
